The Machine Learning Engineer uses statistic, programming and machine learning techniques to analyze product, revenue, advertising, social and sales data to discover, predict, communicate and create opportunities for operational and product improvement.  This person will be a key member of the Data Analytics department which works across all product teams within Deseret Digital Media, including KSL Classifieds, KSL Cars, KSL Homes, KSL Jobs, and KSL.com News.  This person will create user-facing tools on KSL.com that leverage machine learning to improve the user experience for buyers and sellers on KSL.com's digital marketplace. 

 

Duties of this position:

  • Build automated solutions to improve user experience, product features, client solutions and business revenue such as:
    • Content recommendation system for KSL News & KSL Classifieds
    • Classification Models that parse textual data and categorize accordingly
    • NLP analysis on unstructured text for topic modeling and sentiment analysis
    • Price recommendations based on micro-economic measures within KSL.com
    • Predict the length of time a good will remain for sale using time-series analysis, and micro-economic conditions
    • Understand, predict, and diagnose maladies in product user experience using user pathing and sequencing
    • Analyze network graphs for centrality to identify crucial interaction points on KSL.com
  • Create ETLs to extract, transform, and store data from MongoDB, SalesForce APIs, Google Ad Manager APIs, and other systems as needed
  • Understanding of descriptive and inferential statistics
  • Mastery of Predictive Modeling and ML theory, including sample size determination, evaluating models, tuning, and creating tools that run efficiently in production
  • Use of Google Cloud Platform, Jupyter Notebooks, & Github to document extraction, transformation, analysis, simulation, learning and visualization
  • Use statistical and data science techniques such as regression, correlation,  distribution, significance, Monte-Carlo simulations, neural networks, decision trees, attribution modeling, geo-spatial analysis, lift modeling, yield optimization and more to perform comprehensive analyses that produce predictive and prescriptive business insights
  • Produce accurate work and meet assigned deadlines

 

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years professional experience as a Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer
  • Expert in Machine Learning theory & techniques including neural networks, clustering, predictive modeling, etc.
  • Python and SQL expertise is preferred
  • Expert in statistical methods, e.g. regression, modeling, program measurement, time series, distribution analysis, correlation and multivariate testing
  • Building models for imbalanced, and time series data sets. Bias/Variance tradeoff. Model quality metrics like R-squared, AUC, outlier detection and removal
  • Experience implementing and conducting machine learning
  • Experience in cloud-based data management and analysis environment (Google Cloud Platform)
  • Advanced degree in statistics, mathematics, or computer programming

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform
  • A portfolio of projects (GitHub, blog posts, academic papers, etc.)
