So let's just get this out of the way before we get started: if your resume includes the words "detail oriented," "hardworking," or "self-starter," we're pretty sure you're going to want to rethink applying for this job.

(Not because we don't want those things in a candidate - we just...you know, would prefer someone who can find a less clich way to tell us that about themselves).

Didn't have to make any revisions? Cool.

You did? Well, that shows us you're a detail oriented, hardworking self-starter.

Read on.

Utah.com is the official site for the people of Utah, by the people of Utah and the leader for hands-on, authentic knowledge of all things Beehive State ' enticing the masses to visit, galavant, and maybe eventually stay here more permanently. Originally launched in the dial-up days of the mid-1990s, Utah.com helps explorers discover, plan and book epic vacations and adventures in Utah by providing fresh perspective and local insight.  In order to do this, we need someone to, you know, run the business. That someone is crazy organized, knows how to lead a team (which oft-times means get out of the way!), strives to constantly improve culture, and loves getting nerdy with data.

You'll be provided with a crack team, a boatload of support from auxiliary teams, and the autonomy to implement strategies. We just want a good human who cares about people and likes to work. Oh, and someone who's cool with the following responsibilities:

  • Strategize the future of Utah.com (including related sites/businesses in our travel vertical)

  • Implement the strategy by directing day-to-day business operations with both humility and aplomb

  • Manage a sales and ops team that's already awesome but that wants to be even more awesome

  • Interface with the good folks involved with Utah tourism and seek out new and improved partnerships

  • Manage the P&L for the business and maintain transparency and communication with senior management

  • Maintain solid relationships with all support teams (product, development, marketing, creative, accounting). They want to help, and you should want their help.

  • Eager to get your hands dirty. Edit a page, call a client who is past due, or respond to a 5th grader's letter requesting info for his state report.

  • Analyze data, try your best to figure out what it's telling you, and base your decisions on it.

You should have/know these things:

  • 8-10 years experience in the travel industry, marketing, sales, business management, or anything that's somewhat related

  • Writing, communication and organizational skills (bow staff skills are also a plus)

  • Experience with CMS/CRM platforms, and GA (if you don't know what these acronyms mean, this may not be a good fit)

  • Ability to manage multiple projects (without getting all bent out of shape or being a martyr)

  • Proven ability to build consensus and work effectively within a cross-departmental team

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience...even if it was in art history and you realized that was a mistake

  • Understanding of the difference between the national and state parks in Utah (and passion about saying Zion National Park...not "Zions")

  • Adequate billiards and ping pong skills (or at least a willingness to play often)

  • Willingness to travel throughout Utah to visit with clients and attend industry functions...and the ability to feign enthusiasm when the aforementioned clients and functions are located in the many small towns not necessarily located near the glitz and glare of the famed Mighty Five

  • Having a passion for the outdoors is a plus. The site is all about authenticity and we want someone who is actually engaged in the things Utah.com so proudly represents.  So if your primary experience with the outside world is through playing Steep on your Xbox, you may want to reconsider applying

So why would you want this gig? C'mon. What else do we have to say to prove its amazingness? Here goes:

  • A salary (yeah, we'll pay you what you're worth)

  • Free soda, snacks, and breakfast bar

  • Frequent company outings and activities (i.e. baseball games, movie premieres, go-cart races, Lagoon Days etc.)

  • Fantastic medical/dental/retirement benefits

  • Environment for employees to learn, implement, test, and optimize strategies

  • Open floor plan with spontaneous Nerf gun wars when stress relief is needed, hoverboard races (nevermind, we cancelled these when the VP got a concussion during an epic all-out effort to win a heat), "market research" road trips, and noise-cancelling headphones when deadlines are nigh

If this sounds like you, and you are interested in this position, please apply by attaching your resume and cover letter but remember what not to include in there.
