The Data Analyst II uses advanced analytical techniques on user behavior, revenue, the performance of advertising products, and sales trends to discover, predict, and communicate opportunities for operational improvement.  Reporting to the Director of Analytics, this person will be a key member of the Data & Business Intelligence department which works across all product and sales teams within Deseret Digital Media, including KSL Classifieds, Cars, Jobs, News and others.  This person will be solely responsible for all analytical needs for his/her assigned product teams.  As business needs evolve, the Data Analyst II will ensure that data collection methodologies are updated, analyses stay relevant to stakeholder needs, and new technologies are integrated into the overall reporting schema.


Duties of this position:

  • Work with Product Managers, Sales, and other team members to identify analytical requirements
  • Where applicable design, develop, implement, and maintain data collection framework.  This work will follow the Scrum process, whereby the analyst writes detailed user stories, clarifies the tasks as needed, inspects and ultimately accepts the development work when properly implemented
  • Extract data using simple web-based reporting applications (Google Analytics, SalesForce, DFP) and from the Google Cloud Platform using SQL
  • Master all the context, meaning, and collection mechanisms of all product data
  • Clean & transform data as required across systems, including Case statements and Regular Expressions & Advanced Google Analytics Functions (splits, trims, et al.)
  • Most importantly this employee must be able to employ advanced analytical techniques such as SQL extraction and transformation, statistical methods including distribution analysis, regression, confidence interval, sample size, and hypothesis testing, and predictive modeling to perform comprehensive analyses that produce forward looking business insights
  • Create and maintain KPI dashboards and bi-weekly reports to support the evolving business needs of Product Managers, Sales, and other team members. 
  • Produce accurate work and meet assigned deadlines
  • Regularly present findings to the group of product stakeholders


Required Qualifications:

  • Expert in analytical techniques, e.g. regression, modeling, program measurement, lifetime value, ROI, seasonality, distribution analysis, correlation and multivariate testing
  • Expert in Google Analytics, Google IQ certification required
  • Significant experience in SQL
  • Degree in economics, finance, statistics, mathematics, or computer programming
  • 5 years' experience cleaning large data sets and performing complex transformations across a multitude of disparate data sources
  • Demonstrated track record analyzing data, quantitative methods, visualization, statistical testing, developing compelling executive dashboards, and presenting to stakeholder groups
  • Python experience a plus
  • Experience implementing and conducting machine learning a plus

  • As the primary analyst for certain business units within DDM, this person must be able to work independently and win over the stakeholders by with accurate business insights produced within requested deadlines and confidently presented with an understanding of context
  • Must be a self-starter who can quickly master the analytics platforms & data collection methodologies, and the business objectives of their internal stakeholders
  • This person must be self-motivated with intellectual curiosity and a deep passion for learning and develop new skills.
