Do you know what position zero is? Are you more fascinated by the Google search console than your friends' amateur nature photos and selfies on Instagram? Can you intelligently define what the Google AdWords quality score means and how to improve it? Did you kung fu panda, march against penguin, and refuse to take pigeon's (crap)?

 

If so, we should have a conversation. Because we need more search engine traffic. Organic is ideal because it's free (not including however much we decide to pay you and your team), but paid is cool too as long as there's a solid ROI.

 

Deseret Digital Media is - you guessed it - a digital media company. You may know us better through a couple of our prominent products: KSL.com and Utah.com. We're a company that has grown and is poised for even more growth. We need a SEO Director of Acquisition Marketing that will be the company guru on how to drive traffic to our sites through SEO, SEM and content marketing.  We will expect you to help our products rank for and convert from keyword phrases that our customers are using to find a variety of services. We're not looking for someone who helped their uncle build a website on Wix and rank on the third page for "model train restoration by Harold Riverton, Utah." We want someone who can do the following:

 

  • Grow our search engine traffic exponentially! (that's a big word, we'd really be good with some nice double digit growth)
  • Monitor SEO utilizing Google Analytics and other search marketing tools
  • Analyze performance reporting to identify trends and optimization opportunities (and then put the optimization plan into place)
  • Direct and implement content strategies to support optimization
  • Manage keywords, titles/descriptions, and landing page tests to identify what does/doesn't work
  • Understand technical SEO and work with in-house developers to implement solutions
  • Strategize and manage large-scale paid search campaigns
  • Coordinate and manage paid advertising budget
  • Perform in-depth campaign reviews developing recommendations for growth and improvement
  • Manage relationship and contacts with search platform vendors and consultants
  • Stay current on search marketing best practices, search engine advertising policies, search engine algorithm updates and other industry trends
  • Develop and implement ongoing education and reporting strategies to keep all stakeholders educated about new search marketing changes, trends, and updates
  • Lead a team of search marketers (we're going to ask you to help us find said search marketers)

 

Still here? Hopefully you also have the following:

 

  • 7-10 years of SEO/SEM experience (at least 3 of which were spent managing a team...that preferably has nice things to say about you)
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in something (we just want to know that you stuck with something for at least four years)
  • Proven success managing SEO strategy for a company and/or client
  • Proven success implementing and optimizing successful SEM campaigns for a legitimate company (we're going to ask you to prove it)
  • Ability to build consensus and work effectively within a cross-departmental team
  • Willingness to drop knowledge on a bunch of folks who have very basic of SEO/SEM chops (you may have to spell out your fancy acronyms from time to time)
  • Weird, sick, twisted love of data. It's not that we won't trust you, but we'll have a hard time believing what you say unless you can back it up with some mad data.
  • A sense of humor. Lighten up, already. We're going to spend a lot of time together. We want you to be funny, self-deprecating, and generally entertaining.
