KSL.com is looking for an evening managing editor to help lead our evening crew and serve our audience in the Wasatch Front and beyond. This person will also maintain and strengthen KSL.com's relationships with its media partners.  This person will report to the KSL.com News Director and will be instrumental in developing and implementing our strategy for breaking and local news excellence. A great candidate for this position is a multimedia journalist who has great local news judgement, a passion for breaking news and audience engagement and a commitment to upholding the brand standards of KSL and Deseret Digital Media. The ideal candidate for this position is a self-directed leader who can manage the KSL.com news website as part of a larger team.


Job responsibilities:

* Identify which stories will be best for KSL.com each evening

* Coordinate with print, radio and TV platforms to make sure pertinent stories are covered and highlighted on our website

* Attend daily pitch meetings prepared to contribute story ideas and coordinate with radio and TV reporters

* Work with day managers to plan out stories that will run throughout the evening.

* Work with TV and radio reporters to publish their stories online

* Monitor incoming emails, story pitches, breaking news alerts, internal notifications and correction requests

* Log and update the stories that will not run on a given day so they can be used the next day  

* Update stories as new information, photos or video become available

* Clip video from newscasts and attach them to articles

* Oversee social media posts throughout the evening

* Make sure the lead story on the website is updated every two hours

* Respond to and post breaking news

* Ensure the quality and correctness of content from pitches and media partners

* Analyze content performance to determine what types of content we carry

* Pass along necessary information to morning crew

* Collaborate with other journalists to identify and implement other opportunities for coverage

* Assist the rest of the KSL.com news team in providing high-quality content to all of our users


Minimum requirements:

* Previous experience writing for a news website

* A college degree, preferably in journalism or a related field

* Ability to write using Associated Press style

* Ability to multi-task and work under pressure

* Ability to work quickly and meet deadlines

* Capacity to find solid story pitches daily

* Experience in leading others on a team

* Experience in coordinating and collaborating with groups or people with various interests

* A drive to innovate and improve
